Cristina Garabetanu
curated by Călina Coman
The project explores the theme of transformation, rooted in the artist’s investigation of her personal genealogy. From this intimate point of departure, Garabețanu expands the discourse toward broader questions of belonging, rights, freedom, and cultural identity. Drawing on her multicultural heritage—Romanian, Armenian, Greek, and possibly Roma—the artist develops a visual language using three-dimensional objects and mosaics to articulate a fragmented family history and an individual artistic journey.
At once personal and political, the exhibition creates a dialogical space that invites diverse interpretations, reflecting on histories of both geographic and emotional territories. The title suggests a dynamic framework—a flexible unit in constant transformation—that mirrors the evolving understanding of freedom across historical contexts. Each body of work is tied to its own narrative, expressed through photography, sound, object art, and installation.”

The exhibition includes two recent series: Line of Thought (2025) – a documentary-style collection that examines the relationship between humans and the environment, and the second Lies for the Liars, Clarity for the Seekers (2025) – a more poetic exploration of memory as a shifting space intersected by cultural, social, and political elements. The exhibition features works across several mediums, including installation, photography, collage, and sculpture.
